Prostate is a gland exclusive to men. It is in every male body which weighs approximately about 8 to 12 grams and has a very specific role in male functioning. As age goes on, generally the after 40’s, 45 sometime you will see even 50, 55 also the size of the prostate gradually start increasing naturally and creates a constriction for the passage of urine. The commonest symptoms they present with and come to the doctor is when they get an urge to urinate they will not have time to go the toilet and urinate and once they pass the urine, they always feel that it is incomplete. Hence they will have to go and urinate repeatedly. Many times when they are passing the urine, it only dribbles even though you have the urge it just dribbles. Many times you notes the severity of the swelling. In technical terms they call it as BPH Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy. In Ayurvedic terms we call it as vatashtila. There are many natural remedy to that but before I go to the remedy part I would like to tell that it is very natural above the age of 50 and 55 in times , many a times I have seen above the age 80 they don’t have problem but ofcourse every male goes to this phase. Many of them go to a sever stage very in they might have to be operated for but majority of them can manage with medicine some of the life style a like pattern of drinking fluids particularly not only water it might be water, fruit juice, tender coconut water, anything . Buttermilk better to always sip the water than gulp the water in regular basis. It is about the quantity it is taken, how much it is taken. Once you get up in the morning drink one litre of water and after dinner have half a litre of water and repeated get up at night to pass urine. No you have to really plan to drink water particularly. In such cases it is better not to drink more than 200 ml at a time and take some time to sip water, don’t gulp water. I am excluding the other reasons for the increased size of prostate like carcinoma or other reasons but in a case of BPH or Benign Prostate Hypertrophy w e give simple remedies like don’t drink water after 4 pm because that will be collecting in the bladder and you will lose your sleep and loose your energy. After 4 or 5 pm try taking little water, for requirement . try to take your food early so that you have sufficient gap between your food and what you consume water so that it will not affect your sleep. Pas urine well before you sleep and pass urine before so that it doesn’t disturb you during the night. There are some medicines made of paribhadra. Yoga abhyasa, particularly the mooladhara type of exercise, that is contraction and relaxation of the anus. They respond well without medicines. Conditions of cancer has to be handled by an expert.
